[Recipe] Recipe creation mode & auto-portion size & repeat recipe

There are a few recipe-related feedback posts here, some completed, some in progress/review. Hard to find which one to add this feedback to, so I am creating yet another recipe-related post... :) Also, I think it is important to note that "previous meals" and "custom foods" are not the same as "recipes".
On Monday I was preparing a three-dish menu to be consumed by two people over the following few days, in different portion sizes, but not the night of me cooking. And, as I prepared each dish, I kept track of how much of what I put in there, but on paper: Since I wasn't about to eat any of it that day, I couldn't add it as a meal with all those ingredients. So, it is really imperative that there be a "create a recipe for future use" feature. I think this is already suggested elsewhere and probably under review or in progress.
But while eating them the next day, I asked myself how I would have entered the portion I was about to eat even if I had such recipe to call up on?... I couldn't possibly "eat" one whole recipe as my meal, with all the ingredients listed, anywhere from 3 to 10, and then adjust each item's amount to guesstimate what is included in the scoop I am putting onto my plate. So, the thought occurred...
One of the dishes was mashed parsnip. I know exactly how many gr/oz sliced parsnip I put into the pot to boil. Also, I know how many tbsp/ml/oz/gr olive oil I put in there, how many gr/oz of garlic, how many cups/gr/oz heavy cream, etc. So, the "meal recipe" would have all these, and Levels could than either calculate how many gr/oz the resulting puree is or allow an additional entry of "how much does the final product weigh?". Later, when I put a scoop of that puree on my plate, I'd just weigh my plate before/after that scoop, select the recipe item for my meal, enter my portion's weight, and Levels would know exactly how to scale down the macros of that recipe to the portion I am eating now.
And, if I ever were to make that recipe again, I should be able to create a new recipe as a copy of the original recipe, and then modify amounts as well as add/delete ingredients, to experiment with my recipes as I make them over and over again. Even if I made the "exact" same recipe, the weights of items & resulting total weight wouldn't be the same as before.
I hope that made sense. This would make the life of any home cook using Levels so much easier, I think.

[Logging] Add recipe option for meal tracking

In addition to ingredient tracking, allow recipes to be added by ingredients, then servings to be assigned per recipe. For example, adding a different serving from a prior meal of a soup now requires revising numerous ingredient volumes vs changing a serving for a recipe. Especially for people who try to avoid processed and prepackaged food, recipes are critical to tracking accurately.

I would love a option to add recipes. I would also like to add foods/recipes for future use. I have more time on the weekend when I prep food and would like to enter my food for the week at that time. Then each day as I eat I can actually add it or note that I ate it so I can see how it impacts my glucose.

This has been asked before (repeatedly). The best workaround most have found is to calculate the recipe on another app (inside Cronometer) and input the result as a custom food. If it’s super simple I just enter the components directly, though.
I agree it would be a helpful feature, but it’s already on the requests list.

[Logging] Add a recipe option for the recent tab

The current levels app allows you to add recent meals and food items, but I haven't found an easy to add varying amounts of a specific recipe, which would be useful for things you make in larger batches like soups, casseroles, salads, etc.
For example, I make a vegetable salad which contains varying amounts of different vegetables, meat, beans, and dressing. To log this meal I have to go through the complex procedure of calculating the percentages of the various recipe components, multiply them by the total weight of the amount I put in the bowl.
Now if I want to add a serving of this as "recent meal", there doesn't seem to be an easy way to say "it's just a different amount of the same recipe". I wind up just weighing the exact same amount to avoid the hassle of having to recalculate everything.
I think this would slot in nicely at the top of the Recent page, instead of "Meals | Food items" it would be "Meals | Recipes | Food items"

you might check out https://levels-health.canny.io/feature-requests/p/recipe-creation-in-levels-app for a way to store that recipe ahead of time

I agree and feel that what everyone is saying is very important! When I have a lasagna made with chickpea pasta it is TOTALLY different than just regular lasagna!

Totally agree. Submitted something similar and always appreciating seeing other members’ input on this. As others below said, custom is not the same as a recipe. It was offered to me to use Recents, but that’s not the same as what we’re requesting either. Besides, after awhile, Recents disappears. I have to make most of my own food now, and do a lot of batch cooking - soups, dressings, protein muffins, etc. Currently, I write out each ingredient and calculate the entire recipe’s nutrition info, then figure out each serving. Tedious, to say the least. Look forward to having a more efficient solution in Levels.

Recipes!

If I am baking my own gluten free keto muffins how can I add them to this app? There is no way to do it. We need to be able to take a list of ingredients and put them under one custom food and determine the serving size. This is basic functionality for every food logging app there is.

Yes! Surprised a recipe feature hasn’t been included yet

First, the app really needs a recipe function. The custom food log is just not a good enough substitute. As one implements a whole food, metabolically healthy diet, there is a lot of cooking at home. I’ve loved doing that, but I’ve definitely had to tweak recipes I’ve used in the past or even those from Levels to find the right mix for me. Currently, the custom food log would require me to keep a separate recipe log, keep track of what I name that recipe in the app, and calculate macros on my own for that recipe. That’s just not realistic and so I’ve switched back to using MacrosFirst to track my detailed food log.
