As a pre-diabetic user, I'd like to see the glycemic index (GI) of the food and its glycemic load (GL) based on the quantity of the food I'm logging so I can make informed, smarter decisions with portion sizes. (This would be a frequent, high "what-if" use case scenario.)
Formula
: Glycemic Load = (Glycemic Index times the number of net carbs in the portion size) divided by 100
Example
: Given Wonder bread has a GI of 75
Two slices have 26 net carbs, so the GL is 19.5 (High is a score of 20+)
(75 * 26) / 100 = 19.5
But in my what-if scenario, if I cut it back to one slice, it has 13 net carbs, rendering its GL as 9.8 (Low is a score of 0-10)
(75 * 13) / 100 = 9.8
Note: I do this with an Excel file, but it would be super SUPER handy to just have it available in an app, which I haven't been able to find anywhere. Essentially, Glycemic Index values can be a data feed from somewhere (I'm sure there's a .gov somewhere). The Glycemic Load (which is far more important than simply knowing the GI value in order to manage blood glucose levels) is a computation using a known value (GI) and a variable (net carbs of the portion size for the food).
